At Yamabushi Jujutsu Dojo: You will be a member NOT a Customer. You will train in a martial arts with a direct lineage to Japanese Jujutsu/Aikijutsu.
Rather than offering 30/50 minute long classes to maximize cash flow, we maximize training benefit by offering 90 minute classes and frequent additional classes during the week. Class size is small providing personalized, individual attention to each student.
Because we are NOT a sport we provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere in the dojo. Members work together in a non competitive environment.
Yamabushi Kai was established in 1982 by Miguel Ibarra, Hanshi [10th Dan]. This is a blending of Mi Yama Ryu Judo/Jujutsu and Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu techniques for street self defense. Hanshi Ibarra trained directly under Shinan Antonio Pereira; Shinan Hector Negron and Soshi Shihan Katsumi Yonezawa. Additionally, Ibarra trained/studied under other noteworthy Daito Ryu/Takeda Ryu instructors of international status. Hanshi has been training 1966 and has been teaching in his own dojo since 1982. He has been recognized at the rank of Judan [10th Degree Black Belt] by numerous organizations including the American Jiu Jitsu Assocition. Miguel Ibarra, Hanshi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Pschology and a Master's Degree in Counseling from Fordham University. He is a retired law enforcement officer after having served 25 years with the the NYC Probation Dept. where he was in charge of the Warrant Squad, Intelligence Unit, Gang Suppression Unit and all Special Projects, he was also the Defensive Tactics Instructor and a Firearms Instructor and Armorer. He retired in 2005 holding the position of Asst. Commissioner.
Shihan Rene' Ibarra holds the rank of Menkyo Kaiden Kyoju Dairi[9th Dan] in Yamabushi Jujutsu/Aikijutsu Ryu and holds a Shodan in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu Bokuyokan under Soshi Shihan Katsumi Yonezawa. He has been training since 1986. He is the Asst. Director of the Kai. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer and trains individuals on a private basis for fitness and or jujutsu. The Yamabushi Jujutsu training's focus is realistic street defense with a strong background in traditional techniques and concepts.
COST: You cannot buy technique. The monthly membership dues provide you with a place to practice and and receive instruction. It also provides you with a way to show gratitude for the teachings received. It is the student's responsibility to pay dues on time.
